Link Building Without Quality: is it Really Help?

You can have best technique but if you do not know how to implement and where, will it really help you to grow your business? Link building is touted as one of the most valuable technique in online marketing. So if you are passionate about link building, you can get number of options- whether request for it, buy it or earn it by writing good content etc.

Quantity matters the most, is the biggest misconception floating around in regard to link building. What does quantity mean here? As all major search engines put major emphasis on link popularity in their ranking algorithm, people overlook at quality parameters and frequently start spreading links over number of sites without quality, in which all popularity is based on chance.

Wrong message on the wrong place can decrease the popularity of your website. Indeed, what are the quality parameters and why it is important should be looked into.

Theme based Links – The links from the sites that have thematically relevant web pages can be more beneficial than non thematic.

No Free for all links – Never obtain links from Free For All (FFA) websites and link frames.

No follow attribute – The link page should not have the “rel=nofollow” attribute.

No SPAM – No spam should be used to supplicate links.

High quality link – In order to maintain high quality, links should be developed manually.

No more than hundred links - As a search engine can crawl only hundred links on a single page, always prefer to add links where the number of links on a page is less than hundred (including inbound and outbound links).

Links from one IP – Links from different websites on a same IP address should be avoided as it comes under link farming technique.

These quality parameters play a significant role in effective link building .Quality link building always get weight age over quantity link building as it garners relevant audiences to your website and reach your website to the apex of search engines. Quality link building can be naturally achieved by writing and posting good content over informative or thematic sites. However, if it is unique it will catch the eyes of visitors towards your link automatically. Putting an extra effort in link building could not increase popularity of your website, it needs effort with mind and this is why people with experience always prefer quality link building over quantity.

Five Link Building Sins to Avoid

Five Link Building Sins to Avoid

by Janet Attard

If you’ve done any research into search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, you know that one of the most important keys to getting good placement in search engines is to get other websites to link to your site.   And, if you’ve ever tried getting other sites to link to yours, you know it’s a whole lot easier to talk about the importance of link building than it is to acquire relevant, high-quality inbound links.

In fact, looking for appropriate sites to ask for links, trying to convince them to link to you, and tracking the whole process,  is a tedious, time-consuming task.

Not surprisingly, many small business owners look for ways to save time or  cut corners in their link building campaign. But doing so, in most cases, is counterproductive. Instead of building links and online relationships, some of the techniques being used by online marketers and unscrupulous link-building “businesses” will build nothing but animosity for your business. And since many of the lazy link-building techniques use spam to solicit links, poorly planned and executed link-building campaigns could get you pegged as a spammer.

Whether you do your own link-building, have one of your employees do it, or outsource it to a link-building or SEO firm, make sure your link-building campaign steers clear of these  five deadly link-building sins.

Using form letters to solicit links. Whether you write your form letter yourself or copy someone else’s, it’s still going to sound like a form letter – especially when you send the same letter to multiple sites managed by the same webmaster.  One dead giveaway that the email is a form letter: using a trite opening such as “Warm Greetings” (Hey, would you send cold greetings?) Another: gushing with non-specific praise for a site. Don’t waste anyone’s time or internet bandwidth by sending link requests that start off like these:

“Today I visited your site and found it to be really informative. I’m highly pleased to see the comprehensive resources being offered by your site.” or “Out of all of these sites I came across, yours really stood out to me.”

Buying links from any company that spams publishers with canned pitches telling them they’ll make thousands of dollars by placing paid links on their website.  No one likes a canned pitch. More importantly, selling links is something search engines don’t like. Here’s an example of one spammy pitch that regularly drops into my inbox (and just as regularly gets deleted):

“I’ve visited your website http: //www.pluginasitename.com/.
We see that your traffic rank is xxxxx and your link popularity is xxxx.
Also, you have been online since 8/18/xxxx.
With that kind of traffic, we will pay you up to $x,xxx
to advertise our links on your website.”

Trying to “sell” your page rank in a link swap request. Yes, links from sites with page rank are important, but trying to leverage your own page rank to encourage someone you don’t know to swap links is a bad idea. While you might get some takers, link swapping for the sake of link swapping is yet another type of manipulations search engines don’t like.  Pitches like this that claim you will soon have a high page rank are just laughable:

“I’ve got several PR6 and 7 websites, so I expect this site to become at least a PR5 within 1 month and will eventually become a 6 or 7 in 2-3 months.”

Soliciting links from sites that have nothing in common with yours. Businessknowhow.com won’t link to your gambling site, and won’t link to the website for your bicycle repair shop just because it’s a small business and wants inbound links.

Soliciting links from sites that are in a different country, and then asking them to run a geographically specific text ad with your link. It’s pointless, for instance, to ask a US-based site like BusinessKnowHow.com to link to your personal trainer business with a text ad telling readers, “We are easily commutable from Battersea, Chelsea and Clapham.”

Contextual Link Building- Aggressive Yet Ethical Internet Marketing

Conventional means of internet marketing like navigation bars and banners seem to have lost their value. Hardly anyone ever clicks on a banner. The new and revolutionary internet marketing technique is link building.

There are a number of different link building techniques that can be employed by webmasters in order to help themselves get up on the search engine rankings. Contextual link building is one of the most impressive link building techniques being practiced today.

Contextual link building is actually a very aggressive technique under the guise of a passive service. The best thing is that it is totally ethical and is bound to give you a significant boost in your search engine rankings.

Key Components of Contextual Link Building

This link building technique revolves around two things that search engines love; good content and keywords. Contextual link building involves getting expert blog reviews written at the hands of qualified SEO writers. These blog reviews are based on your keyword topics. They have to be high quality informative and interesting blogs. The blog reviews are then published on various good PR blogs and websites containing a hyper linked keyword that redirects the reader to your website.

Be Careful About Where You Post

As important as it is to have well written blog reviews and relevant keywords, it is just as important to find the right places to publish these blogs. Many webmasters go too far in trying to maximize their outreach and in the attempt they publish their blog reviews on as many websites as possible. Ask the SEO experts and they will tell you that you have to be really careful when submitting your blog reviews to any website. If that website has a bad repo with Google or is too down low on the search engine rankings then you will not be able to reap the benefits that contextual link building has to offer. A professional SEO company on the other hand maintains a complete blog network consisting of industry relevant high PR blogs. When your blog reviews are posted on such websites the chances of gaining link popularity are multiplied manifold times.

The Third Party Perspective

The key to the success of contextual link building is the third party perspective. The blog reviews are written in a manner that comes across as an honest and informative write up. No where in the blog review will your company name be mentioned. Rather a competitive keyword will be selected and hyperlinked. This is the way readers will be directed to your website. So all the while the reader is going through the content he has not the slightest idea that he is just witnessing a highly aggressive internet marketing technique.

As is with every technical job on the internet, there are many intricacies involved with contextual link building. In fact the intricacies with this link building method are probably more challenging than any other because it requires you to have technical knowledge as well as the human touch for writing effective blog reviews. This necessitates that you find an affordable SEO company that has the experience to conduct contextual link building on a professional level.

BlogoView.com is single service website that offers 100% result oriented contextual link building service. The Link Building Constellation- Mapping The Ideal Profile Of A Link Building Campaign

The link building constellation maps the ideal link profile of a website for a link building SEO campaign. Covering the main sources of links which make up a typical campaign, the graph shows where each fits in the ‘link constellation’ and the sort of proportional quantity each should be sourced in.

The diagram is based on the makeup of some of the most successful SEO link building campaigns I have run and although its far fom an exact science following this visualisation as a guide will, I believe, result in the most successful possible link campaign for improving PageRank and keyword ranking.

The diagram breaks the link profile of the website down into 6 main categories, 5 of which are built up in the link campaign, the 6th ‘Organic links’ are those links gained naturally through the increased preveliance of the website and the creation of quality content.

1. Internal satellites- 10% of total links

These are internal links and particularly links on sub domains. The suggested examples are subdommains of the main domain which stray from the main content of the site and therefore justify their own domain but are very much part of the main website such as blog.mainwebsite.com, affiliate.mainwebsite.com, jobs.mainwebsite.com- each of these has the same or similar top level navigation as the mainsite and links back to the mainwebsite.com homepage.

2. External satellites- 10% of total links

External ‘satellite’ links are links which come from content created on external domains but operated with full editorial control by the mainwebsite (or the link builders). This mostly refers to external blogs, microsites and community portals setup by the optimisers usually for the sole purpose of creating new quality links to the main website.

3. Quality links- 25% of total links

These are the links built usually entirely by the link building campaign on quality, relevant websites. Gaining these links will involve approaching the relevant websites and getting a link put somewhere on their site either by asking, adding to their content (i.e. comments on blogs) or most commonly link baiting with article distribution.

4. Free links- 15% of total links

This is the old school of link building but is still a very important part of creating total link volume. The link profiles of some of the most successful SEO link building campaigns are based massively on free link building alone but this is increasingly becoming a difficult area of utilise to maximum effect. Free directory submission is the most common type of free link building but social media distribution of site content through RSS and tagging is a more modern spin on free link generation.

5. Paid links- 10% of total links

I debated wither this should be included but ultimately accepted that somewhere in any large scale link building campaign paid links would be used to increase total link volume, target some quality relevant sites and also build up link numbers from some high PR (PageRank) sites.

6. Organic links- 25% of total links

I strongly believe that no successful link building program is complete without a substaintial contibution from sites which are not sourced for links as part of the SEO campaign but whom choose to link of their own accord based on the quality of content on the main website or the internal satellites. Adding a blog to the top level domain/ a subdomain of it is a great example of a way to instigate this natural linking process as people are far more likely to link to a corporate blog than a corporate site.

This part of the link profile is the icing on the cake and the realisation that the quality content production as part of the SEO campaign has been successful and the brand has achieved the neccesary exposure to attract attention from the online community. often this goal will only be reached with big brands and the support of offline marketing campaigns.

Top Reasons To Hire A Link Building Company

Link building has never been on the website owner’s list of favorite things to do. It is time-consuming, but then again, a website never gets to the top of search engine results without any links to it

What does a website owner do if he is not fond of doing it himself? Hire a link building company to do the link building. Outsourcing your link building may cost a lot of dollars, but there are reasons that tip the balance in favor of outsourcing.

Link Building Takes Time

If you don’t have the time for link building, chances are, you’ll never have other websites linking to you, unless if other website owners find you first.

It Takes Strategy

Don’t think that it only takes an email to get other website owners to link to you. The reason why link building takes time is because most website owners or web masters do not respond on the first try, or even on the second.

Keep in mind, there are so many other websites trying to get as many links as they can. This floods the webmaster’s inbox. It definitely takes a strategy and a bit of creative thinking to get webmasters to notice you and make it impossible for them to refuse your request for a link.

Link-building companies make your life easier because they’ve been at it long enough how to get the intended results right away.

It Can Be Frustrating

When you try link building, you are trying to sell your site to other website owners, which is not an easy thing to do if you are a new website.

Expect website owners to reject your sales pitch on the first attempt (sales is a field of rejection). This makes it very worth it to outsource link building; link building companies are used to the cycle of contacting webmasters or website owners, making a follow-up, and facing rejection.

Important In Search Engines

The triumvirates of Google, Yahoo! and MSN have factored in link popularity and link quality in their search engine algorithms. Thus, your website will not rank if you don’t have any links to your site.

Link popularity is measured according to the number of inbound links to your website. Link quality, on the other hand, evaluates the quality of the links. Link building companies can get you those quality links since, in all likelihood, they already have a database of the websites related to your own.

In choosing a website, check out their link building strategies, whether they really take the time to find the best sites that are related to your website or just generally harvest and link. There’s a very good reason for this.

Google once penalized websites that scooped 200 to 300 sites in one month. Some websites even disappeared from Google’s index altogether due to a dampening filter. The overdone link building efforts were though to be the link-building version of spamming. Other content rich websites take one year to build 100 relevant links.

Link Building 101

Link Building 101

Two of the three big search engines (Google and Yahoo) place a large importance on one way links to determine rankings. Each link to your site is like a vote and the more votes you have, the higher you will rank.

In this article I will be sharing with you some important info on link building and some strategies to help your one way link building.

We will start by giving you an understanding of the basics…

Beginning with the very basics, a link is a way of navigating from one webpage to another. To have a link within the same website is called an ‘internal link’. An ‘external link’ takes you from a webpage in one website to a webpage in another website. The meaning of ‘backlink’ is that your site is being linked to from another website.

There are 4 different types of links:

* URL Link – This is simply a website url that is a link.

* Text Links (aka static links) – This is the most common type of link (when you click on a word or phrase and it is a link)

* Image Links – An image link is simply an image that you click on to navigate to another webpage.

* Dynamic Links – These types of links are in another programming language called Javascript and while they also take you from one webpage to another, they have ‘extra codes’ to perform special functions.

(these types of links can appear in many different forms)

It is important to be able to recognize these types of links, even if you are not familiar with web design and programming. You don’t have to memorize the codes, just learn to identify each type of link.

What links does is to provide navigation for human visitors and for ‘spiders’(aka: crawlers, robots, bots). Simply put, a spider is a computer program that goes to websites and gathers information. Search engines use spiders to visit and ‘index’ your website. This means that they gather information about your site in order to list it in their search results.

When the search engine spiders index your website, they follow the links to get from one webpage to another. It’s important to know that search engines cannot follow ‘dynamic links’ and do not follow html links that have a special code in them that says ‘no follow’.

The place where ‘no follow’ is commonly found is in the “meta tags” section of the website. Meta tags are basically information that only the spiders see and not for the human visitor. You can see the code for any website in your browser by choosing ‘view source’. (From Internet Explorer, choose Page » View Source. From Firefox choose View » Page Source)

If a search engine spider cannot follow a link from another website to yours, you can still receive visitors but the link will not have any value from a search engine optimization perspective.

What different kind of links could you get?

There are 2 types of links that you can get:

* One-way links – A one-way link is when another website links to you and you don’t link back to them.

* Reciprocal links – A reciprocal link is when a website links to you and you link back to them.

To search engines one-way links are usually much more valuable than reciprocal links. However, each link has its own individual value based on: how relevant it is to your site, the text in and around the link, how much authority the website that links to you has, etc.

However, there are links that the search enginges rates as ‘no value’ links, even though they are bringing you boatloads of targeted visitors every day…

Generally speaking, the more websites that link to you the better. However, building links takes time and energy and if you focus on getting ‘high-quality links’, you will get a bigger return on your investment. 50 high quality links can be much more valuable from a search engine optimization perspective than 1000 ‘low quality links’.

What’s a high quality link? – Links that brings you Page Reputation (which shows the search engines that other related websites consider you to be important), and links that give you PageRank. Sometimes both together and sometimes not…

To get high rankings on your website, you want to obtain links for targeted keywords. That is why it is important to start with keyword Research.

If your website is about “bird watching”, the first step is to ‘do keyword research’ and find out which keyword you should aim for. While you could just start getting text links for the keyword phrase “bird watching”, if no one is searching for that – you won’t get any visitors. There’s no sense in ranking on the first page for a keyword that no one is looking for.

Or, if there is a lot of competition for that keyword, you might want to pick a “lower hanging fruit”.

This is an excellent free keyword research tool. (The numbers you see are searches/day.)

Another important part is making sure your page is optimized for the keyword you are targeting. If you are focussed on building one way links to your site but the links have anchor text which doesn’t even appear on your page, you will likely be wasting your time. (I say likely assuming that you have some competition for your targeted keywords, if there is no competition then it doesn’t matter).

In this case a site that has fewer one way links but much better on-page optimization is likely to rank higher. Or maybe you are building one way links to your site but they are just url links and not anchor-text links. A site that has more high-quality(anchor text) links than yours is more likely to get a higher ranking.

Ideally, you want to build a lot of one way links that have anchor text which includes the primary and secondary keywords that your page is optimized for. Google also uses Latent Semantic Indexing which (in a nutshell) means that they study the synonyms of the keywords on your page. This is to prevent spammers from just loading every second word with their keywords. The relation between all the words on your site is what their algoritm looks for.

So to make one way link building worth the effort the content has to be. The first thing you want to do is to optimize your sites for you visitors. Then, you can go through and “sprinkle” your keywords. Then, go out and get one way links with the anchor-text of your targeted keywords, ideally getting most of these links from websites that are related to yours.

Yes, Google also looks at the relationship between your website’s content and the websites that links to you’s content. Fewer links to your business site from other business sites will be more valuable link-wise than more links coming to you from a site about video games..

Don’t make these link building mistakes:

* Don’t spend all your time getting one way links from sites with no Page Rank. One or two links from related Page Rank 5+ sites can be worth more than 100 links from sites with no PR.

* Be careful about buying links or you can get banned. Site Wide links is something you should be extra careful about. If your website only has a few backlinks one day and the next day you have hundreds Google will see this and penalize you.

* Don’t spend all your time building one way links that are url-links, you want to get anchor-text links.

*Important is to NOT get “No-Follow” links, since they don’t bring any value to your site.

Happy Link Building!

Adding Some New Techniques to Your Link Building Strategy

Your link building strategy is an essential part of your SEO campaign as it helps to drive traffic to your website. If done properly and consistently, link building can reap ongoing results for your website in the form of increasing potential traffic. Link building strategy also help to get your website rank high in search engines.

There are several traditional and modern methods of link building. Though all those traditional methods are not obsolete these days, the changing algorithms of search engines have changed their priorities. Hence, you need to shape up your link building strategy according to the recent search engine norms to bit your competition online and enhance your online presence.

Understand Your Marketplace

Your link building strategy should not be a process limited to creating links from different sites; rather, there are several other critical efforts that you need to take care of prior to link building. When you are in a particular business, you need to investigate your market and know your audience. Develop your link building strategy by creating links from the sites where your potential customers are more frequent. An effective link building strategy is not about securing links form sites with high PageRank, but it is about getting links from the sites that your potential customer use regularly to get their required information. Build a list of such sites by analyzing your competitors and try to build links on a regular basis by providing new content and updated information.

Link Out

Link to the relevant and information rich content from your site or your blog post; you can also post comments on their blogs. It is a smart way of driving attention of other sites to your site. If you are doing research to develop your blog or articles, you can refer to other trusted and well known blogger and link to them from your blogs. If they like your blog and write about it you can get a recommendation and approval from a high profile site.

Create a WordPress Blog

Creating blogs in WordPress and linking back to your website is another smart way of getting links as well as visitors. This link building strategy can bring you numerous quality links if done properly. Apart from links the WordPress blogs are a great way to increase your search engine rankings.

Creating Mini-Blogs and Linking It to Main Blog of Your Website

Writing short blogs in the social media sites and linking them to you main blogs for reference create another way of getting backlinks. Of late, the search engines are giving importance to links from the social media sites and the links from your mini blogs form a smart link building strategy.

The conventional link building strategies such as directory submission, article submission are still in use. But they are no more considered as effective. On the other hand new link building strategies of social media networking and blogging are the prevailing trend of link building. But, if you include the above discussed techniques into your link building strategy you can secure quality links for your site.

Do I Really Need a Search Engine Optimization Specialist?

Getting a Search Engine Optimization Specialist depends on what stage of development your website already is in. Many website owners err by creating the website first then hiring a Search Engine Optimization Specialist to implements his expertise so that the website ranked higher in search engines like Google and Yahoo! A much better way of using the services of a Search Engine Optimization Specialist is to hire him even as far back as the website design planning stage to get much better results.

How do you know if the Search Engine Optimization Specialist you hired is competent in this field? Your Search Engine Optimization Specialist might simply do the usual integration of multiple keywords and phrases with those keywords into the content of the website (and into the HTML coding as well). Since this Search Engine Optimization Specialist practice is already being done by many, the effectiveness of this tactic is watered down significantly.

Choose a Search Engine Optimization Specialist team that can write content for you, assess the statistics of the website, are well-versed in HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), know how Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be applied to websites for different industries and occupations, and can monitor the latest on search engine developments for you. This may entail several skills so you know you’re getting more bang for your buck when you hire a Search Engine Optimization Specialist team.

It is important that your Search Engine Optimization Specialist team be aware of the difference between directory enhancement and a search engine optimization effort. Directory enhancement means your Search Engine Optimization Specialist team will select the categories under which your website seems to be most related to. The Search Engine Optimization Specialist team will then create concise descriptions about the content of your website (excluding the keyword stacking tactic which we mentioned earlier.) Search Engine Optimization, on the other hand, requires skills in the design, writing and then encoding into HTML of pages from your website so that your preferred search engines will rank your website highly enough so when Internet users search for certain keywords, your website will appear in the top search results.

The Search Engine Optimization Specialist should be able to tag for you the specific keywords and phrases which seem to be used most commonly in most Internet searches. A little known fact is that search engines do not use the same algorithms for very long – these search

engines actually switch to new algorithms frequently. This practice helps keep spamming Search Engine Optimization Specialist from mastering the search engines and allows them to produce better search results for Internet users over time. So, apparently your search engine ranking is not cast in stone and may need to be pursued constantly by your Search Engine Optimization Specialist to insure that people will find your website among the millions out there on the Net.

If the web page uncovered by the search engine spider seems to differ from the web page viewed by the end user, that web page will be deemed spam and your website will be eliminated from the search engine database. This is tantamount, actually, to copyright infringement

whose Search Engine Optimization Specialist rely on the cloaking practice to get away with their stratagem. Unfortunately for these people, search engines are trying to get the practice of cloaking by any Search Engine Optimization Specialist to be banned altogether because cloaking does not benefit the search engine and may even have detrimental side effects on search engines.

Some software programmers will even resort to taking content owned by another site and putting it on their client’s website so that the Search Engine Optimization Specialist team can create “gateway pages”. Never resort to this because it does not produce the optimal long-term results you are looking for. Rather, your website should be dependent on original and excellent content produced specifically for it, as well as a spider-friendly navigation system applicable for search engine usage.

The best way for your Search Engine Optimization Specialist to work for you is still dependent on the basics:

1) Create a well-planned and well-designed website

2) Create web pages that your audience can follow, and

3) Rely on a navigation system that both end users and search engines can follow and use.

4) Have a good strategy increase you link popularity.

If you follow these basics, you not only assist in your users’ search activities but you also make life easier for the search engines themselves. In short, choose a Search Engine Optimization Specialist that really knows how to optimize search results for you the right way, rather than resorting to illicit tactics. Illicit tactics may work for a short time, but in the long term will only give you a bad rep among search engines and the wide, wide world of website owners.
